Salem is a district located in the southwestern part of Brebes Regency. The area is mostly characterized by mountainous and hilly terrain, with a wide valley in the center that gives it a basin-like shape. Due to this geographical condition, the region remains relatively isolated. Two major rivers flow through this area: the Cigunung River and the Cibinong River. The Cigunung River originates from Mount Pojok Tiga and passes through the villages of Tembong Raja, Indrajaya, Banjaran Salem, Bentarsari, and Cibentar before eventually flowing into the Pemali River.
